[Ariyah – Lady Washington – The Stores – BoL – Fame 2 – A]
“As long as you love what you’re doing, I guess.” Ariyah said, “Although I was thinking more about your ability to deal with crowds than your actual vocation. As I said earlier, all jobs have their uses, and it’s good that you enjoy yours.”
“As for me,” Ariyah smiled when she thought about her latest project, a large outdoor mural for an apartment complex, “Yes, I would be happy if I can do what I’m currently doing for the next 50 years. I’m a muralist, and I enjoy the work. But I do intend to incorporate new techniques as they are developed – new materials and new mediums. I’ve also recently expanded my business to include interior design; I’ve found there to be a natural synergy between the two industries, and I wanted to explore that avenue of work. So even if I’m doing the same thing, it would not be exactly in the same manner.”
Ariyah shrugged as a thought came to her, “Interestingly enough, a couple of nights back I was talking to another Kindred who was telling me that as his business grew, he took a more managerial role in the company and was no longer involved in tasks that he enjoyed doing. I can never do that; if my business ever got to the stage we needed a managing director, I’d just hire one. I would never give up doing the actual art side of the business.”
“Which brings me back to not doing anything you don’t want to do. That’s different from not doing something because you’re held back by fear. As long as you’re sure your reason fits with the former and not the latter, then it’s good.” Ariyah paused to take another sip from her drink, “And only you can know which one it is.”
She leaned back in her seat, as if to give the other Kindred more room to think, “I’m not saying that you need to justify your choices to me, I’m just saying it’s something worth keeping in mind.”
